Inside my mind

I receive e-mails everyday from readers asking me questions like: "What were you thinking?" and "How did you come up with that idea?"

I get positive remarks like: "Great article! Keep it going." and "Well thought out, great job!"

I get negative replies also, like: "Whoever allowed you to write is an idiot!" and "I am done reading your articles."

I know I can't please everyone, and I do not want to. I enjoy controversy and heated discussions. I think it is healthy.

So I decided to reflect back through out this season, in no specific order and share with you the thoughts that ran through my mind as I read articles, watched races, went to races, worked on race cars, raced online and pursued my quest for Charlotte and a full time Nascar job.

Here it goes:

"Hey, a caution flag for Buckshot Jones, there's something you don't see too often."

"Come on Mark, hold your line, don't let him by, come on... damn."

"If this guy blocks me one more time, I am sending him."

"Waitress, a shot of JD please. It's obvious Gordon is going to win this thing and I don't want to remember it." (that didn't work. maybe 2 shots next time)

"Yes, I AM crying, so what?. Man, JR dominated that race!"

To my uncle when he was screaming at the TV during a Busch race when the 66 caused a big wreck: "Actually, Tom, Geoffrey Bodine is in the 66 now, not Todd Bodine." Tom: "Like it matters? Aint one of them that can drive!"

At Lowe's Motor Speedway: "I think our campsite is that way." "Just look for the one with the Bud flag."

"Why would you go from rainbows to flames? He must be really secure in his masculinity."

"I DON'T CARE WHAT DRAMA IS!!!!"

"I need to marry Heather McGee!"

"How about a replay please... REPLAY!!! Man these guys suck."

"Back up cars? Are they serious? Well.. I guess that is the right thing to do."

"Tony is mad.. he's going after him."

"That has got to be the ugliest car ever. Has anyone ever run brown before?"

"Dave Burns is a moron. Has this guy ever followed racing before?"

"Oh my god, I hope those guys are ok. Ward must feel terrible."

To my Boss: "I wont be in today. I am sick." To myself: "This Martinsville race ought to be good."

"Garth Brooks is a class act."

"When did this site become TeamPoetry.com?"

"HE IS NOT DALE SR!!!!!! He is Dale Earnhardt.(period) STOP CALLING HIM SR!!!! It made him mad and makes me mad. Stop it!!" "Dale Earnhardt told the media many times to not call him Sr just because he has a son named Jr. Respect his wishes."

"This Winter Olympics commercial is great. That's odd? Tony is driving a car with a Grand Prix nose, but the rest of the car is a 1995 Monte Carlo...."

"I wonder if Heather would date me?"

"That must be a laugh track. Bestwick couldn't laugh that goofy constantly, could he?"

"WE KNOW WHAT LOOSE AND TIGHT MEAN!!! MY DOG KNOWS WHAT IT MEANS! ENOUGH!"

"Hey look, Rusty's feet... "

"I bet you Kevin will.... Yup, I knew it.."

To an employee while at Joe Gibbs' Racing: "Man, this place is incredible. There is only one way to improve this place. Hire me!"

As they covered Steve Park's car in tarps: "This is not good. Oh god, please let Steve be ok. Come on buddy. Hang in there."

"Ray Evernham knows what he is doing. Jeremy Mayfield is too good a driver to pass up, especially with Bill Elliott retiring in a year or two. And believe me, Casey will be fine in the 7. With Ray's name associated with it, he will get the resources he needs."

"If the Pontiacs lack aero advantages that much, switch to Dodge, 10 other teams did."

"Don't blame Nascar for your car's aero disadvantages. Blame your manufacturer. They designed the thing."

"I miss ESPN!!!"

"Hey, lap 5, first commercial... isn't that nice"

My favorite: Wally Dallenbach describes Jeff Gordon replacing his shifter knob on a pit stop, "Jeff pulls in, the crew hands him a new knob, Jeff puts in on. There you go, one knob job and Jeff is on his way!" My thought: "Did Wally just say "knob job" on national TV?"

And my worst memory: "Come on now Dale, drop the net and climb out. Drop the net. This doesn't look good."

There were more as my wheels are always spinning, but those are the ones that stand out. I won't be writing as much this off season as I am busy writing for a book due out next year and I am writing for the National Association of Pit Crew Members, plus I am still actively pursuing employment with a Nascar team. Happy Holidays!! See you next season.....
