The Nascar world, My world.
I have received several e-mails this past week asking me why we are all making such a big deal over Talladega. Aren't we worried about our soldiers? Shouldn't we be more concerned over Anthrax? Shouldn't we be more loving and forgiving towards everyone, including Nascar, in light of what has happened? Here is my response to all those e-mails:

Hello, Thanks for your e-mail. Please allow me to explain my method of thinking and why I choose to dog Nascar, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, and whoever else may be on my mind at the time. I know our country is involved in a MAJOR ongoing battle with terrorism. I know our soldiers are at risk, I know we are not as safe as we thought we were here in the homeland and that the terrorists are trying to push us into a state of fear and disrupt our lives. NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!

I work a 40 hour a week job and I love my job. The boss is great, my co-workers are great and I enjoy going to work. Not a lot of people can say that. However, if I had my choice, I wouldn't go to the office everyday, I would be on a beach somewhere drinking Margaritas. I go to work to pay the bills and to make money. Even though I enjoy my job, work does add some stress, as does everyday interactions like those famous "Eventual lefts" that you are waiting for the moron in front of you to make. Come on, he has had his turn signal on for 3 miles now.. TURN!! Don't make me bump draft you ala Harvick/Bodine.

How do I relax? I slip into my Nascar world.. My world. This is the place where my adrenaline flows, my heart pounds and chills run down my spine and all we have done so far is say "Gentlemen, Start your engines" I love that. I am a true racer and a race fan. I study Nascar history, I go to every race I can, I watch every TV show about it. I write these articles. This is how I relax. I spent quite a few years working on the Nascar Featherlite Modified Tour with the 21 team. I would work all week and at times when I was working away from the shop, I would drive up to 600 miles each way all by myself to get to the track. Did I mind? Hell no. I was smiling the whole way, thinking of how great the victory lane celebration would be. By the way, the team that I worked for just won the Nascar Modified Tour Championship this year with driver Mike Stefanik. Congrats guys!! Art, Kenny, Rob, Daryl and the entire team, great job, wish I was there to celebrate with you!!!

Ooops.. back to my point.. Sorry I got "wrapped up in my world" there. The President has asked us to get back to normal, to not live in fear and to show the world how proud we are to be Americans. So, yes, I will gripe over Harvick. I will give Tony a hard time. I will take any chance I can to throw in a dig about Jeff Gordon. And I will continue to push Nascar and fire people up to do the same to help improve our sport. Is this disrespectful to our Nation? No way. Believe me, I am not trying to ignore what is going on in the world. I follow it everyday. I have not forgotten those that have lost their lives and their families. I am just getting back to my life, my world and my passion.. Racing...

So, this week... Nice job for Casey Atwood getting his first pole. I predict Rudd will be up front with a shot at redemption for last year, but I wouldn't count out Mark Martin. However, I think Tony Stewart will be victorious when all is said and done. Let's hope his post race interview gives us more to write about on Monday.

Thanks for reading and for taking a look into "My world", although I have a feeling you may have a similar world of your own. Rob
