THE FACES OF NASCAR By- Charlotte Morse Check out ALL our sections and features here!! There is plenty to keep you busy on our main page! We have a million different faces. We range from housewives to meteorologists, and everything in between. We're between the ages of 10 & 80. We are all NASCAR FANS. Before today, I guess I kind-of assumed that all racing fans were red-necked Oakies from Miskokie, everybody lived and worked on a ranch, and that I was the only outsider, a 26 year old short haired red head who looks more like a skater than a racing fan. But a little something happened this morning while sitting here at work, and it got me to thinking.. (And once I think, WATCH OUT WORLD!) The details leading up to this are boring, so I shall skip them. But in a nutshell, a gentleman comes into my office to fix a problem with my computer. The wallpaper on my computer happens to be our very own Junior at the moment (ok, its always junior, leave me alone) and he points this out to me. This is a very nice looking computer guy, not the type of guy I'd imagine being into NASCAR. But he goes on, telling me he's hitting Vegas this year, and I was truly surprised. It honestly never dawned on me that computer guys would be into NASCAR. I don't know why. After this realization hits, I decide to do a little research on the fans. What do we do for our livings? Do we all work on ranches and live in small southern towns? I know I don't, but I consider myself a rarity. I post this question on a message board, and these are some of the responses I received (Thanks pit board peeps!). Collen is a 25 year old housewife and her husband works for my favorite driver's sponsor! (two guesses on who it could be, and no its not Sterling's sponsor). Maureen is a 32 year old assistant for 2 doctors at a pharmaceutical company, and her husband extrudes food???? (actually he is an extruder operator in a food processing plant, but I thought that "extrudes food" sounded cooler.) Amy is a 22 year old administrative assistant, along with 27 year old Kathi. Sasha is a 13 year old 8th grader. Awww how cute! Way to go Sasha! Rinda is a 35 year old genealogical researcher. WOAH. Gypsy is a 33 year old lab manager, and her husband drives a cement mixer. Becky is a 26 year old meteorologist. Impressive. Joan is a 38 year old accountant, mom, and race fan. Very busy lady. Tammie is a 33 year old high school math teacher. Boy do I feel for her! Robo (now get THIS!) is a 36 year old father, welder, and ROBOT PROGRAMMER. I want to program robots! Stephanie is a 26 year old hair stylist. Kate is a 17 year old high school senior, planning on majoring in something once she hits college. Hey, I didn't even go to college. Other people do other things, ranging from DJ'ing radio to stetting up salad bars and fruit baskets. Registered Medical Assistants, Registered nurses, office managers, accountants, claims analysts, insurance agents, you name it, NASCAR fans do it. It brings a fresh perspective to out sport, knowing that one could hit a race track at any given time, and have their genes studied, their hair done, or their 2002 taxes prepared! (I personally could use all 3) I am a 26 year old receptionist/office manager for pregnant teenagers. Government work really bites, but I've got a job, and where else could I spend my days writing columns on my favorite past time??
