That sums up my article, thanks for reading. Oh wait, you want me to back that statement up? Can't you just take my word for it? Alright alright.
Now- stands for this season.
Acquire- demand our hard earned dollars for things you let us view for free less than a month ago.
Suckers- the fans.
Cash- our middle class wages
And- (self explanatory)
Run- because really, you higher-ups at NASCAR.com are charging us for what we have already seen for free, and less than a month ago.
I guess they needed to make some money somehow. NASCAR now has those lovely advertisements during the race that specifically tell us in a lot of legal talk that these races are copyrighted and are not to be reproduced (meaning, don't tape them or they'll sue you). They've also got those ever so thrilling NASCAR.com commercials running every 5 minutes promoting their great-new-very-confusing web site. They've got to pay for it somehow, so obviously the thing to do is charge the working class fans 5 dollars a month to run commercials that suggest legal action, and oh yeah, to promote their "new and improved" web site. So basically, you as a fan are paying to promote your appreciation for the support you undoubtedly spend plenty of money on already.
"NASCAR'S decision to charge for services such as race cast on its web site is seriously detrimental to the sport. Fans who may not be able to afford to attend a race could still feel as if they were a part of the action by listening to race cast. It gave an inside-view of the race that television broadcasts often neglected. NASCAR has long prided themselves on being a family-oriented, fan interactive, moderately inexpensive sport. However, this new image is alienating a lot of fans, not from their favorite drivers and race teams, but from the organization that provides the catalyst for the fans' enjoyment. While NASCAR may consider their decision to be good business, but many fans undoubtedly disagree," Crazy8Dreamer said.
Tracy was a bit more vocal. "I got onto NASCAR.com and there is a video clip of a recent interview with Steve Park staring at me. Can I watch it? NO. this is utterly ridiculous. I've been a NASCAR fan for 20 years and I've been supporting NASCAR.com for a long time and now I have to pay to watch video clips and get race cast? I don't think so.
Many will probably argue that 5 dollars a month is a drop in the bucket. NASCAR.com makes it 50% cheaper for you if you pay for it yearly. But here's my question. Why am I going to pay to see video clips that I saw on RPM tonight? No, I can not catch every single interview my favorite driver does, but more often than not they are asked the same questions day after day. They (the drivers) just answer those same questions with variations of the same answers. How many different ways can junior tell me that he ran over some debris? That is why the tire blew. I don't need 15 different interviews to answer that question, and I most defiantly don't need to pay 5 dollars a month to hear that extra-special 16th way. I got it the first 15 times. I mean, does he get naked the 16th time? I might pay for it then.
"We need to let them know that we would like to support their site if only they would put more weight on the fan's opinions. They know we run the show, so to speak. The money and time we put into supporting our racers, our favorite teams, and their sponsor's is what makes the sport what it is." Well said Brandi.
Michelle from Harrison Tennessee: "The recent events with NASCAR.com are just another example of how the sanctioning bodies in NASCAR are becoming greedy and losing sight of the reason NASCAR was started. Many years ago the France family started NASCAR so the sport of stock car racing would have a professional outlet. During those early years it was all done for the love of the sport, and for the fans. In my opinion, those were the 'glory days' of NASCAR. The days when there were more important things than the almighty dollar. Nowadays, the sport is full of selfish, greedy, money hungry leeches who are raking in the profits for doing nothing more than sitting behind a desk and telling a lot of people what to do."
Few have argued this point. In fact, I've only seen one article in favor of charging for race cast. More power to the highers-that-be, but someone at NASCAR should really take a look at how upsetting this is to the fan's that make this sport what it is.
