I must preface this article by stating that I am not a huge Shane Hmiel fan. Rob’s article calls him a punk, and by most other’s definitions he is a punk. I agree he is a punk, but that being said even a punk has a right to defend himself.

NASCAR has suspended Shane Hmiel for substance abuse. So now I am waiting to see what substance NASCAR is accusing him of abusing.

No one seems to know what the abused substance was. The crux to the articles I have read say Shane must go. Are we becoming foils of NASCAR by joining the lynch mob without knowing all the facts? I joined that mob until I stopped and thought about what I was about to do. What if this was one of my favorite drivers that were being accused?

What if your favorite driver was being accused??

What if Junior (gasp) tested positive for taking Winfuel?

Unfortunately, NASCAR is a little short of credibility at the moment in my and a lot of other folk’s eyes.

I believe everything that comes out of NASCAR’s offices as easily as I could throw Smokey Yunick’s famous Chevelle.

I have been around racing for many years. One of my favorite drivers was Tim Richmond. NASCAR banned Tim Richmond for substance abuse. The substance was over the counter drugs. I thought then, and still think now that Tim Richmond got a bad deal from NASCAR.

Is Shane Hmiel??

It’s time for Shane Hmiel to have the cahones to stand up and say the suspension isn't warranted and defend himself or walk off.
