There has been so much drama unfolding in the world of NASCAR until it makes you wonder how long it will take for stability to truly come around. It’s has been amazing to witness the changes in evolving team owners, the dissemination of historical team owners, sponsorship budgets being reduced, mergers and acquisitions constantly taking place, and the list goes on and on. Things that make you say – hmmmmm?

The economy has resulted in a severity of changes but it can’t be the total blame/excuse for everything happening in this sporting entity. Can we honestly say that it is ALL because of the economy that so much instability and confusion has surfaced? Or Could some of the drama have been caused due to some questionable decision making by the powerhouse executives behind NASCAR?

Let’s ask ourselves these series of questions and you tell me:

(1)Is there really a level playing field amongst the smaller and larger race teams?

(2)Is there really a diverse, collective and decisive level of thought process going on in regards to the future of the sport?

(3)Even though changes are inevitable throughout any organization, where was the process of effectively implementing those changes versus throwing out a shockwave?

(4)Diversity (touchy subject) but is this really being embraced and molded or simply just a carrot that is dangling for GP?

(5)Finally, the fans – are they being calculated into the equation of NASCAR successfully surviving in the long run? Yes, sponsorships are big for operational value but so are the fans because they have to buy the tickets as well as support the sponsors.

NASCAR is definitely a premier sporting organization and it has indeed made its mark; however, where will it be in about 5 years from now at the current rate that its going? Will there be more dissolutions or additions? Will sponsorships continue to decrease or increase? Only time will truly tell what the state of NASCAR will be years from now.

I am definitely a fan and supporter of the sport; I would like to see this entity continue to evolve and not dissolve.

Until next time…
