Talla-freakin'-Dega
Here it goes, in no particular order...
Rob:
Since I took over the point lead for the ITPB staff predictions this week, I shall go first. Everyone thinks DEI and Chevy when we think restrictor plate, but I don't think it will happen this week. Tony Stewart dominated Speedweeks at Daytona and even last year was a strong force at the plate races. My pick:
Tony Stewart
Bobby Labonte will be up there as well. Look for Kenny Wallace to be a threat as well.
Lisa:
Lisa is in the process of moving and didn't make the deadline, so we will give her last week's pick again.
Rusty Wallace.
Arnie:
Bill Elliot wins
Sterling Marlin 2nd
Mark Martin 3rd
Arnie
Danny Z:
Yee Haw, Dega, my favorite track. I know the purists hate restrictor
plates, and all the rest, but for fan exitement from start to finish, it just
doesn't get any better.
Being so far down the pick list, I'm throwing caution
to the wind and predicting Johnny B can avoid the big one for a change. The
55 team can have a good plate car, and maybe Terry will get the fast Chevy,
so my Dega trifecta is:
Johnny Benson,
Bobby Hamilton,
and Terry La Bonte.
Heather:
Man, I can't win for losin'! I picked Kevin Harvick to win last week at Martinsville (and we all know how that turned out!). So hopefully I'll finally get a break with this week's pick!
I really believe that it's time for a Chevy to pull into victory lane and get its first win of the season. And I'm going to pick a dark horse to win at Talladega this weekend: Michael Waltrip. He is one of the few who seems to be a master at restrictor plate racing, and always does well at those types of tracks (he finished fourth at this year's Daytona 500). He is also coming off of a good run at Martinsville, where he finished 13th. So I'm predicting Michael will win on Sunday - come on Mikey, I need to earn some points! LOL!
On a side note, I'm also predicting that Tony Stewart will be the loudest driver booed during introductions!
SideWays:
Me and the boys at the shop, have a disagreement over this one. Since we're new at this and can't seem to agree, we are gonna' let "Rollback" pick 'em.
He says it's easy. He's been taking a correspondence course over the Internet on prestidigitation. Along with it he got this really nice crystal ball. We all gathered around and he passes his hands over the ball. Sure 'nough it began to cloud up and the smoke filled the inside of the ball.
We all kept asking what it said. Finally old "Rollback" looks up and says he has it. The winner is….well it remains a mystery. Seems "Little" Harold was chasing a squirrel with his "Super" Soaker. It jumped on the table with the crystal ball and knocked it on the floor. Of course it shattered into several pieces. "Rollback" got mad and stormed out.
Oh our pick? Lil "E" of course..who else?
Don:
What can you say about Talladega? It's big, it's fast and it's the dreaded
restrictor plates. All factors being equal I predict the following top
five:
1. Tony Stewart
2. Jeff Gordon
3. Michael Waltrip
4. Kenny Wallace
5. Sterling Marlin
Possible drivers to watch will be Dale, Jr., Kevin (Not so Happy) Harvick,
Bobby Labonte and possible surprise, Terry Labonte.
Don
Bethann:
Talladega- It really doesn't matter where you qualify here, just
as long as it isn't in the back with the ill handling cars that COULD
start the BIG ONE.
So the win is really up for grabs, anyone could
sneak the win here. You just have to be in the right place at the
right time, AND have some drafting buddies.
But my money is on Dale Earnhardt Jr.. He won last year at this track,
and is a clear favorite at all the plate tracks.
Watch out for the DEI & RCR cars, they seem to have Daytona & Talladega
figured out. So be sure to watch Harvick, Stewart,
Waltrip, Park, and Sterling Marlin other possible winners.
Charlotte:
Back on the Junior train again.
LAST WEEK"S WINNER- Myrtle Zeeff!!:
After much reading ( on the internet ) and thought, I really had planned
on a Roush
team member to win in Talladega, but now that they have put 1/4" inch back
on the
spoiler I am skeptical. Woman are allowed to change their mind.
Sons Dan
&
Doug got me interested in racing about
8 yrs. ago and now I am dedicated fan.
At 75 I do have my SENIOR MOMENTS
and you may think I had one when I'm
going with Tony Stewart to win ( same as
Don ) and Mark Martin second . Mark is
due a win.
It is difficult to pick this race due to the
BIG ONE and the one engine use. Sunday's race should be interesting and
God Bless all the racers.
