The Glen!!
Here it goes, in no particular order...
Don:
Here is my highly reasoned, insider information predictions for Sunday's race at Watkins Glen.
1. Robby Gordon-Steadily improving and hungry enough to eat the south end of a north bound bull. Varooooom.
2. Jerry Nadeau-He's too good not to run well again. Eat your heart out Rick Hendrick.
3. Jeff Gordon-Refuses to win until Brooke gives him back the Jag
4. Ricky Rudd-Ricky is always a threat and may find time to let us know his plans for next year.
5. Tony Stewart-He's mad as hell and won't take any more guff from insensitive reporters/photogs.
Let's see some fender rubbin and fram and bam without all the worries about aero crap.
Don
Kevin:
I'm a little confused this time around. NBC is calling this week's
race one thing, and it is called something different on NASCAR.com!
It always used to be "somethingorother at the Glen," so let's just
stick with that. Since I'm a bit confused, and road courses are
not the best place to take a desperate gamble, here are my safe and
sane predictions for the "Whatchamacallit at the Glen:"
5th) #24 Jeff Gordon - "Chachi" will run good as he always does here,
but he will have to suffer through at least one more week of questions
about why he hasn't won a race this year (and may he have many more).
4th) #20 Tony Stewart - I will resist the urge to join in the "provoked
or uncontrollable" debate over Smoke's latest trip to the land of
double-secret probation. However, I will warn Tony that no matter
what the reason is that you get angry enough to use physical force,
be aware that people in New York will most definitely hit you back!
3rd) #9 Bill Elliott - While I'd love to see good ol' Bill get three
in a row even though he's driving a d-d-d-Dodge, I think that's asking
too much of this team right now. Just wait until the races after
this one, THEN Elliott will give Sterling Marlin something to really
sweat about as this team starts peaking just at the right time.
2nd) #31 Robby Gordon - Always a popular selection on the road courses,
but I just can't pick him first 'cause I'm so sick of that commercial
his sponsor is running with its logo embedded in that poodle's froofy-
floofy hair.
Well, I ALMOST made it though these safely and sanely. Let me put
on my Spock ears and make the logical selection as to the contest's
winner, Captain...
1st) #6 Mark Martin - Before Jeff Gordon became so successful at
Watkins Glen, Mark Martin did a little dominating of his own. Look
for Martin to take back victory lane this year, and send "Chachi"
back to his new motor home for another week of frustration and self-
doubt.
Heather:
What can I say? I can't believe that Jeff Gordon didn't break his winless streak last weekend at Indy. I'm starting to think he won't win a race this year. Who knows? But one thing's for sure: I'm picking him until he does. I've said all along that I will pick him until he wins another race, and then I'll move on to someone else. Besides, I've been picking him for so long, if I don't and he wins, I would be very ticked off! So, since this week is a road course, and a track he runs well at, it may be the final time I pick him this year because he'll finally win! If not, at least move me up in the points, Jeff! LOL!
Danny Z:
It's time for me to win one of these, so I have decided that this week
I'll pick the guy that will be leading at the end of the race instead of a
hundred miles from the end. NOBODY can win 3 in a row so here's my Glen
trifecta.
1 Bill Elliott proves me wrong and proves that he's the man with the plan and
the team to beat the rest of this season. He'll have to beat
2 Road racer extraordinaire Rusty Wallace and his faithful sidekick
3 Ryan Newman, but the only reason any of these guys will be up front is
because of Jeff Gordon's continuing run of bad luck. The ten points for most
laps led will hardly be a condolence for the 24 team.
Happy Racin, Danny Zeeff
Alison:
Rusty inched me closer to Don last week and I should go by him this week. I am picking the Road King, Jeff Gordon
2nd should be Mikey.
and Rusty should continue his good fortune of late and come home 3rd.
Rob:
Back to the road course. Could this be the week Jeff breaks that losing streak? Just a side note, there are guys like Brett Bodine, Kenny Schrader and others who haven't won in a while, why aren't we following their losing streaks?
Anyhow, I am a few points from jumping out of the basement here, so I need to choose wisely. Steve Park got me ny first top 10 of this segment, so I am sticking with him to give me that elusive win!!
Come on Steve, I believe in you!!
LAST WEEK"S WINNER- Ken V.:
My Watkins Glen prediction is this. Sterling will struggle again. He wasn't
any good at Sonoma even before his mechanical problems. He's just never been
a good road racer. The race should come down between Stewart and Jeff Gordon
barring mechanical problems for either of them. Rudd should be good as well,
but I think it will be Stewart first and Jeff second. Both should close up
nicely on Sterling in the championship.
Bethann:
Missed the deadline, Tony Stewart again for her.
Arnie:
Missed press time, so it's John ANdretti again
Lisa:
Missed the cut off, so it's Jeff Gordon again
Not a bad pick for The Glen.
SideWays:
Side and the boys at the shop must be busy. They forgot to send their pick so they get Tony Stewart again.
Charlotte:
Dale Jr. , Who else?
