Michigan/Part 2!!

Here it goes, in no particular order...

Don:

Last years race saw Sterling Marlin grab his first win with Elliott third in his Dodge. Sterling is struggling and Elliott has won his NA$CAR mandated allowance for the year. Ricky Craven ran strong there but the polish on his apples has dulled of late. With another of NA$CAR's incessant aero tweaks for Chevy and Pontiac this week, who knows who will have the advantage. Last year means nothing so I am going to play the odds as follows:

1. Jeff Gordon- No way can he and his team continue to be left out of victory lane and Jeff has always ran well at Michigan.

2. Matt Kenseth- This kid is good and, provided his Roush engine holds up, he should be strong here.

3. Robby Gordon- Showing steady improvement and learning patience.

4. Ryan Newman- Continues to impress and engines are important at Michigan.

5. Jimmie Johnson- Needs a good finish to tighten the rookie points up as well as the Cup points.

Regardless of who wins, let's hope for a good, competitive and safe race.

Kevin:

Michigan again? Weren't we just here a month or two ago? Why don't we move the Bristol races closer together like MIS and Pocono? Wouldn't you just love to see the boys (and maybe Shawna) go back to Tennessee with the last race still VERY fresh in their minds? Nah, it always happens with normally boring tracks like MIS. Yes, the previous race this year was better than most as my feeble memory recalls. Unfortunately, that was due more to yellow flags rather than good racing. Anyway, here are my predictions for this week's race which I am calling the "Aero Push 400 presented by Farmer Hell-ton:"

5th) #6 Mark Martin - Mark will continue to make Sterling Marlin sweat Silver Bullets with another good finish.

4th) #10 Johnny Benson - If this team has even slightly figured out the balance of their car after Pontiac got its nose job, look for the home-town boy to return to the top five.

3rd) #29 Kevin Harvick - Look for this team to continue to improve now that Tony Stewart has taken back all of the "bad boy" publicity.

2nd) #97 Kurt Busch - see 3rd

Once again, I'm going to have to shy away from making a radical pick this week for the winner in order to keep myself from plummeting any more in our standings. But, I really feel the following driver and team are poised to make a serious run not only at this race but at the Cup championship:

1st) #9 Bill Elliott - Who does Jeff Gordon miss more, Brooke or Ray Evernham?

Alison:

Jeff Gordon has failed me and I will never pick him again. I should have never strayed from Mikey.

My pick for Michigan is Mikey.

2nd will be Sterling bouncing back from engine trouble the past 2 weeks.

and 3rd will be Ward Burton with a strong run in that Caterpillar Dodge.

Mike:

Will the latest advantages given to the Pontiacs and Chevys be a factor in Sunday's event? It may help, but I think Dale Jarrett and Bill Elliot will still be the two cars to beat. Watch out for those two DEI cars though: Both Waltrip and Junior love Michigan and have consisitently run very well there in the past. It will be interesting to see how much of an advantage the latest kickout from NASCAR will help the Chevys/Pontiacs, but I still think "The Big Brown Truck" is going to victory lane.

The Top5:

1. Dale Jarrett

2. Dale Earnhardt Jr.

3. Bill Elliott

4. Ryan Newman

5. Mark Martin

Arnie:

The winner will be Matt Kenseth with Mark Martin close behond taking over the points lead from Sterling Marlin who will have more mechanical problems

...Bill Elliott will be a close 3rd.

Lisa:

I am going to pick Dale Jarrett. This is a good track for him, and I do believe that gas can is not going to get stuck again. He was second in the spring, and I'm saying he's going to do better this time.

Now for a little incentive for all my co-pickers. I am hoping everyone starts picking well because I am using all of you. I am donating a penny a point to the Foundation For Fighting Blindness in honor of Colton Chase Meyer. I will do this until the end of the season. The better we pick, the closer Colton will be to keeping his sight. Now it's more than pride, gang. It's for a little boys sight! So Good Luck to you all!

Bethann:

Michigan is a FAST track. I think the ones to watch will consist of Awesome Bill, Dale Jr, Mikey, Newman, and Jeffy Boy. Bill has the most wins at Michigan, and has been on a hot streak so I would like to go with him, but I don't think he will take it. I think I am going to go with Jeff Gordon, not because I really want to but because I'm sick of all the hoopla around his winless streak. I wish he would just win one so we can move on. GO JEFF!

Keep track of Mikey....he loves Michigan and did well the last trip there. He could just sneak away with it. Take care, and have a safe one!

Heather:

Man, can you believe how poor Jeff Gordon's performance was last weekend at Watkins Glen? I'm starting to think that there's been an "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", and the REAL Jeff Gordon, who won the championship last year, is locked away while his evil "twin" tries to ruin his career. I just cannot comprehend the year he has had!

Like I've said all along, I will pick him until he wins another race, and then I'll move on to someone else. Hopefully this will be the final week I pick him this year because he'll finally win! If not, at least move me up in the points, Jeff! LOL!

SideWays:

Well me and the boys made a boo-boo last week and for once it turned out just fine. You see we made our pick for the Glen on Tuesday and somehow just didn't send it in! I guess if there's anyone to blame I could just look in the mirror.

Our choice was Robby Gordon. What we got was Tony Stewart. You see if you don't get your picks in on time you get the weeks previous. Imagine our mixed emotions in discovering our mistake! Do we beg to change it or not? As it turned out either one would have been OK. It's just that we may have to back up to accept the win! That along with the "slings and arrows" from our fellow pickers! Oh well as they say that's racing!

OK lets get to it! A second trip to the Irish Hills will bring the same results. The Fords seem to dominate. Although the "Bow Tie" Boys will get an inch to their noses it won't be enough for this traditionally "Blue Oval" bastion of good finishes.

Everybody's crying cause the #12 car's flying ain't no denying We'll take Ryan!

Danny Z:

First, everybody says Bobby's having a terrible year. Last time I saw this I went up to MIS, picked Bobby when everybody said I was nuts, and he won. He can't have a teammate as good as Tony Stewrat and be bad so here is my Michigan Trifecta;

1 Bobby Labonte, just so he can smile again, and I wish I could box the next two but I'll put

2 Rusty in second if he doesn't have a run in with

3 Tony Stewrat, who's so high on told ya so's that he can't possibly do bad this week.

Gettin a Fla storm so gotta go.

Happy Racin,
Danny Zeeff

Rob:

Ok. I still believe in Steve Park, but he failed me last week. I missed most of the race and have no idea what happened to him.

Michigan is not a strong track for Steve, but Mr. Dawsonville seems to have it figured out.

Bill Elliott to win

Park 2nd and

I think Kenseth will contend for the win but come home 3rd.

LAST WEEK"S WINNER- Jim Pierson:

Gheezzz! No one took Tony "The Hammer" Stewart for the Glen. So by default I get to make my picks for Pepsi 400 @ Michigan.

Well, well, well, isn't it amazing that Ford and their "whining" drivers complain that NA$CAR gave them GM boys some nose. "Oh the GM boys have lead the most laps", says Ford, but if I add properly Ford has won 8 races this year, Dodge won 6, Chevy won 5 and Pontiac won 4.

Ford has five cars in the top 10 in points and won the Sirius 400 in June with 6 other Fords in the top 10. Now I think the proof is in the pudding, FORD DRIVERS SHUT UP AND DRIVE!!!

My Top 5: 5th- Dale Jarrett

4th-Sterling Marlin

3rd-Jimmie Johnson

2nd-Ryan Newman

1st-Bill Elliott

My hearts says GM but Dodge is just too good on flat tracks!!

The Handyman, our resident Fill-in.

back to the mich these are my picks

1 -28

2 -17

3 -12

4 -88

5 -15

happy pickin from the handyman.
