Sear Point (Road Rage '02)

Here it goes, in no particular order...

Don:

Here are my fearless predictions for Sears Point

1. Robby Gordon

2. Jeff Gordon

3. Ricky Rudd

4. Tony Stewart

5. Rusty Wallace

Call me crazy but Robby can run the road courses and I think Childress will pour some extra effort into getting him the best possible setup.

Don

Arnie:

Mark Martin will win a close one with Tony Stewart closing and Rusty Wallace trying to catch up.

That's the 1,2,3 of Sears Point as it looks from my seat.

Heather:

I'm still riding the Jeff Gordon train; it's working well (thus far), so I'm picking Jeff Gordon again this week, especially since he's good on road courses.

Maybe he'll break his winless streak this weekend. If not, hopefully he'll at least have a good finish to move me up in the points some!

Alison:

Being somewhat new to this still, I will have to go with someone with a proven record.

I am tempted to take Jeff Gordon, but I think he will be 2nd. Tony Stewart first and Mikey 3rd.

SideWays:

We all here like Robby Gordons chances, as long as he doesn't try to race lap down cars with fresh tires!

Tony Stewart second with Jeff Gordon third and climbing!

Look out Sterling they're coming!!!

Kevin:

This week's race is in one of my old stomping grounds...beautiful, scenic, historic Sonoma County, Californ'y! It's a wonderful place where the clocks run slow and the cars run fast...and I'm not even talking about Sears Point yet! There's hardly a native of that area who ever shows up for anything on time, which might also explain why they all drive like maniacs on the narrow, twisting roads that run through the hills and redwood forests.

No, you won't see many redwoods at Sears Point 'cause it's too close to San Pablo Bay. But, I hope you'll see a finishing order something like this so I can try to get back in our points race after getting stuck with a 12th place finisher last week instead of having who I really wanted. ,Dale Jarrett, who finished second (groan). Didn't I tell y'all that people from Sonoma County are always late? Well, I only lived there awhile, but some of it must've rubbed off on me. I'm using some turpentine to try and rub it off, and the fumes might explain the following prediction:

5th - Jimmie Johnson #48 - Well, it should be obvious by now that you have to think about picking Johnson 1st for any race...but I'll gamble that he's not ready to conquer a road course.

4th - Kyle Petty #45 - I thought about going with Kyle for a third week in a row. He's a good enough driver to win in Sonoma, but I think his team is not quite there yet.

3rd - Mark Martin #6 - I love Mark Martin, but sometimes he has a look on his face like he went down to Fisherman's Wharf and ate a batch of bad clams. Not this week for Martin...wait until Watkins Glen.

2nd - Rusty Wallace #2 - Rusty could very well get it done, but he's too close to Ryan Newman's bad karma for my comfort.

1st - Robby Gordon #31 - Yes, I think this will be the week that someone comes through for RCR. Robby has been behaving himself fairly well this year, and I hope he doesn't prove me wrong by pulling some bonehead move again.

Danny Z:

Time for my twice a year foray into the unpredictable world of Winston Cup Road Racing. I've found in my fantasy league that picking 8 drivers in these things is darn near impossible. The only saving grace is that write ins are only three hundred thou and there should be plenty, considering the lack of full [real] fields lately.

I really like Boris Said when it comes to hired guns, but I don't think he has the support of the other drivers to pull off a win this time. On a tight narrow twister like Sears point it's really hard to pass in a full size car, and if the guy in front of you doesn't want you to, it becomes almost impossible.

Another hired gun is in a much better position to win this thing than Boris, and that's Ron Fellows. He's had a great year in his sports cars, [ I saw him at Sebring, and he was brilliant] and he'll be driving a Joe Nemechek owned car 87 with confidence, experience, and respect from the other drivers, [cept maybe Tony Stewrat, he'll just want to win]. All that said, here's my trifecta for Sears Point 2002 edition.

1 Ron Fellows wins this, despite a fierce battle toward the end with runner-up

2 Tony Stewrat, who grudgingly admits to himself that he's been outclassed and doesn't do anything dirty enough to put Fellows in the kitty litter. Neither of these guys can even see third place finisher

3 Ricky Rudd in their mirrors, since he's three turns down but happy to take a third and a bunch of cup points out of California, [including those 5 for most laps led]

Well, there you have it. Take it to the bank or the outhouse, whichever way you want, but until Sunday afternoon I'm stickin to it. Good luck, and get your picks in asap!

Happy Racin' and Hellooo California!!

Lisa:

I cannot believe that I have been SOOOOO busy, I've forgotten to send in predictions for the last TWO weeks. I will have TO get off the Dale Jr wagon for this race, but I'm sure hoping he does better. Road courses are very tough TO pick.

Some teams get "road course specialists" and I really don't know why. Never seen one win yet. Robby Gordon has a decent shot this week, and I'd really like TO see a Richard Childress team with a good finish.

The TWO Jeffs, Burton and Gordon are also good on the road courses. HMMMM, I have TWO Gordons and TWO Jeffs. Is anyone seeing this pattern or I am just TOO nuts to think straight.

I pick RUSTY!!

Rob:

Well you know Jeff Gordon will do well. And Robby Gordon should do well, as well.

Tony and Ricky should also contend.

I am going to go a little different and say that this week's winner will be Rusty Wallace.

He is hungry and I think he can pull it off.

Look for Tony and Robby in the top 3.

Bethann:

Missed the deadline, so it's Jarrett again.

Charlotte:

Dale Jr. , Who else?

LAST WEEK"S WINNER- Jimmy (The Handyman!!):

From The Handyman

I keep saying jeff is going win, I think it will be this weekend at Sears Point.
