I will confess that I do not watch a lot of the Craftsman Truck series. I cannot explain why up to this point I haven't been much into it. But given the sad state of the Nationwide series, I have tuned in more.
Even though I don't watch like I should, I do follow certain teams for different reasons. For instance, I have watched Matt Crafton closely. Not exactly sure why, but he is sponsored by my absolute favorite home improvement store, Menard's. It is primarily a Midwestern chain of stores, but if they ever expand beyond middle America, those other chains will be in trouble. I mean where else can you shop for washers and dryers and suddenly realize you need milk? It's brilliant, they offer a little bit of everything for everyone. But I digress. Matt Crafton has always been one of the best drivers in the truck series without a win. That is until this past weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway where he finally broke through and won a truck event. It ultimately proved that nice guys can finish first. Matt has been a consistent contender for quite a while and it was really only a matter of time before that first win came along. But for whatever reason, lady luck just wasn't on this teams side. Back in Kansas, Crafton and his No. 88 Menard's Chevy was in contention when he was flat taken out by rookie Colin Braun. Crafton was hot, he had every right to be, there was no justifying what Braun did. But for all the bad luck and coming close on many occasions, Crafton would be rewarded for all that he has endured in his career. As cliche` as it is, the saying "in order to finish first, you must first finish" comes to mind. The final 30 or so laps of the North Carolina Education Lottery 200, was a test of a teams ability to survive. Crafton and his No. 88 Chevy was able to survive and thrive in the wild finish to the race.
It took 178 starts to finally get a well deserved win, it is unlikely it will take as long to get win number two. Matt Crafton won by first finishing the event, but he also proved that nice guys can indeed finish first.
